Ocean theme day at international G-Stic event

On Thursday 21 November, VLIZ is co-organizing the G-STIC 2019 OCEANS day. The theme day is part of the G-Stic 2019 event, the networking event for companies, policymakers and experts in Brussels Expo. At this conference, marine and maritime actors are invited to help conceive ways in which new technologies and sustainable solutions can be put to the market more quickly.
The day before, the exploratory OECD workshop 'Digital Technologies in the Ocean Economy: Exploring the Future' will also take place, in collaboration with the OECD and the Flemish government (only on invitation).

For those who are looking for solid multidisciplinary information that opens their eyes to the societal challenges related to the ocean, an inspiring programme has been compiled on the basis of five themes:

  • Nature-based solutions for coastal protection
  • Desalination
  • Clean shipping and alternative fuels
  • Marine Spatial Planning
  • Smart Sea

With the semi-plenary session 'Blue technologies within sustainable ocean resources' in the morning, parallel deep dive sessions in the afternoon and an 'Industry Night' for companies, the day is packed with new ideas and networking opportunities.

The Oceans theme day is open to all participants in the G-STIC conference. You can register for 1, 2 or 3 days via https://2019.gstic.org/shop. There are special rates for PhD students, students and visitors from developing countries. Consult the full program of the three-day conference at 2019.gstic.org.

The Oceans theme day is made possible by cooperation with the Luxembourg Maritime Administration, the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management and the FPS Mobility; and with the financial support of DEME.

The day before, on 20 November, the OECD STI Ocean Economy Group, The Blue Cluster, VLIZ and the Flemish government are organising the exploratory OECD workshop 'Digital Technologies in the Ocean Economy: Exploring the Future'.The aim of this closed workshop (by invitation only) is to investigate what digital technologies will become available in the coming decade within the ocean economy, and what the potential application possibilities are for a whole range of operational applications. The results of this OECD workshop will be presented by Claire Jolly (OECD Directorate for Science, Technology and Innovation) at the semi-plenary morning session on 21 November and hereafter discussed with the audience.
