The project aims to better characterise the mass strength and stiffness of the clay soils from the Kortrijk formation which are marked by faults and fissures. This will be done both from a geological and geotechnical perspective.  The work of VLIZ will involve detailed integration of seismic data with borehole information (cores and cone penetration tests) in order to ground-truth and better understand the seismic features. Upscaling through 2D/3D extrapolation should finally help to improve the characterization of the Kortrijk Formation on a larger scale.
