Beschrijving

Data accompanying the publication: “The impact of offshore wind turbine foundations on local hydrodynamics and stratification in the southern North Sea”.

The dataset consists of detailed measurements around offshore wind turbine NRT-A02, situated in OWF Norther in the Belgian Coastal Zone. These are:

Lander-based measurements. This is a custom stainless-steel frame placed on the seabed, to the southwest of the turbine. The lander was equipped with a CTD sensor, an upward-looking ADCP placed in a gimbal, and a seabed profiling sonar.

Vessel-based measurements. Transects were sailed to the northeast of the monopile during peak flood. Two identical zigzag transects were performed to determine the spatial extent of the monopile wake. During each transect, salinity and temperature were measured at a 1 Hz frequency using the ship’s underway sensor lab. Flow velocities were measured via Teledyne RDI VM-DAS software using a vessel-mounted RDI Workhorse Mariner 600 kHz ADCP, in cells of 1 m. After zigzag transect 1 was completed, CTD casts were taken at predefined locations along the zigzag transect. At each location, a down- and upcast were collected.

Wave buoy data: data downloaded for the downloaded from the Flemish Banks Monitoring Network (Meetnet Vlaamse Banken, 2024). The wave buoy is located 4 km from the monopile (location: 2.98667 E – 51.56472 N). Significant wave heights and periods measured at the nearby Thornton Bank South wave buoy.
